Jose Santos Guardiola Public School in Punta Gorda

There are 530 children in grades 1-9 with 22 teachers. The school was built in 1957 and serves the community of Oakridge & Punta Gorda. The children are mostly of Garifuna culture.

The classrooms need a lot of work



Much of the school furniture is built by hand



The school books are very well used and in need of replacement



The new Library was donated by friends from the USA & built by Punta Gorda Parents



The children are entertaining visitors from the USA





The School desparately needs the following items
  • Overhead projector
  • Bathrooms with sinks (donations preferred)
  • Puzzles and other games
  • Rulers for Math class
  • Squares for Geometry class
  • Compasses for Geometry class
  • Crayons
  • Plastic containers for crayons
  • Water pump (donations preferred)
  • Air Conditioner 60,000 BTU
  • Refrigerator
  • 2 Blenders
  • 2 Large mixers
  • Propane Stove (donations preferred)
  • 20 Exercise mats for PE Class
  • Pans and skillets
  • Sturdy plastic plates
  • Large serving spoons and kitchen utensils
  • 100 Pair of small childrens scissors
  • 2 White rectangular plastic tables
  • 6 Audio tape recorders for English classes
  • Lab equipment for a Natural Sciences class
  • Tools for a Carpentry Class including:
    • Circular saw
    • Hand plane (shaving tool)
    • Polisher
    • Sandpaper
    • Chisels
    • Screwdrivers, standard and phillips
    • Pliers
    • Hand and electric drills
    • Extension cords
    • Industrial fans
